The Essen Motor Show 2016 report
To enjoy Essen Motor Show professionally one has to visit the event twice. F-Register’s first visit was on the Preview Day. What has turned out to be a regular visitor’s day at Techno Classica at the same location is still a Preview Day at Essen Motor Show - the target audience is either still at school or at work, the exhibitors are obviously enjoying the “silence”, the press is able to ask questions the interview partner can hear. The girls that belong to Essen Motor Show as naturally as fishes belong to water are still rested and are training their poses without pubescent visitors around them forcing them to smile for the next selfie…

As Essen Motor Show is the tuning fair, Ferraris are rare compared to lowered and modified daily drivers and with rising values the Prancing Horses are hardly used anymore to be modified or even being rebuilt by designers like Zagato or Sbarro. A striking number of Ferraris used as presentation cars have clearly been customer cars having been supplied by them for display for the newest wheels and foils. 7 of the 31 cars present qualified for that, nearly all of them on a valid road registration.

Essen Motor Show looks like having found its format. Beside the professional exhibitors, Essen Motor Show provided another Formula 1-display with two single seaters from Maranello included. The traditional “Designer Show” once again sadly did not include a Ferrari. Giugiaro, Zagato and Sbarro preferred other brands.

Hall 1 presented a teaser to Techno Classica. Mostly Dutch dealers offered road going Ferraris from 1972 to 2007.

The second visit on Saturday before the fair is closing is the walkabout and one has to like it or just want to have the full impression on Essen Motor Show. Silence is blown away and one really feels like being on of 360,000 visitors and the promotors of bass rolls, subwoofers, amplifiers and tweeters show the crowd what it is all about: Crash Boom Bang, zumm zumm zumm and ootz, ootz, ootz. A smile on our faces, the knowledge that we have had our impression and that we will be back – on the next Preview Day!
