the 23rd European Grand Prix will be the first to be held in Baku
This weekend will be something special in Formula 1. The Azerbaijan capital Baku hosts a Formula 1 race for the first time. The circuit, once again desinged by German, Hermann Tilke, is not the same that is usually used for the GT-races, but the Baku City Circuit leads through the most modern government district as well as thourgh the historic city centre and the boardwalk of Baku. The streets of Baku are partially paved roads that will be bituminised for the race and - the town is below sea level! Even Zandvoort is 6 metres above sea level.

The lap will be 6.003 in length, the second longest lap of all races behind a lap in Spa. 12 left turns and 8 right turns with a 2.2 kms long full speed boardwalk will be passed 51 times for the full race distance of 306.153 kms.

Friday will see practise session 1 (11 am) and 2 (3 pm). The Qualifying follows the 3rd free practise session on Saturday at 3 pm with the race to be started 24 hours later.
