María started racing at the age of 16. In 2005 she joined Ferrari Challenge Europe to finish 8th in the 2005 season. She participated in the 2006 season as well.
Maria participated in the 2005 edition of the 24h of Daytona. In 2011 she tested Lotus Renault's F1 car before joining Marussia as a test driver. She suffered a terrible accident during the Duxford Aerodrome testing on July 3rd, 2012.
She was recovering from head injuries and had just released an autobiography.
