50 years of the World’s Greatest Rock & Roll Band
It was on the night of July 12th, 1962 when the Rolling Stones first appeared on the scene, replacing Alexis Corner, who became busy that night when recording a broadcast edition of “Jazz Club” as top act in London’s Marquee Club. The original line-up was Mick Jagger (voc), Keith Rchards (g), then called Elmo Lewis who later called himself Brian Jones (g), Dick Taylor (b), Ian Stewart (p) and Tony Chapman (dr). Interesting fact was that regular drummer Charlie Watts joined Korner that night for the radio show. Bill Wyman joined the band on December 12th, 1962.
