Italian born American driver becomes 65 today
Mario Andretti, one of the most complete drivers of all times, only had some brief appearances with the Scuderia. He temporarily participated in the 1971 and 1972 Formula 1 seasons and had a part-time return when he replaced injured Didier Pironi in 1982 for the races in Italy and the US. His only victory for the Scuderia results from his first start in South Africa in 1971.

Teaming up with Jackie Ickx, Ignazio Giunti and Nino Vaccarella he won the Sebring races twice and achieved a 1st IC again there together with Chris Amon.

Beside his career with Ferrari, Mario Andretti might well be known more for winning the USAC/CART-Championship as well as becoming Formula 1 World Champion – with Lotus in 1978. Furthermore Andretti won the Indy 500 as well as the Daytona-500-NASCAR race.

We have added a few of “his” working equipment to another F-Register Slide Show! Results of his races for the Scuderia can be viewed in the Formula Race results db and the Sportscar Race results db.
