During his racing career that returned 51 GP victories, Prost never seemed to be a person that was nice to handle. It is said that he invested very much to always have any advantage. On the other hand he was one of the first drivers to handle the F1-business as a professional by talking to engineers and by having a focus on the race car’s development.
Do one have to be a nice person in the shark pool of individualist? Success seems to demand different. Prost was awarded with four championship titles and is still highly respected today.
His time with the Scuderia probably resulted from the differences with McLaren and the ongoing fight with Ayrton Senna. Ferrari was not top in the season of 1990 and 1991. It was in the middle of the long “titleless”period between Scheckter and Schuhmacher. 1990 returned 5 GP victories for Alain Prost on 641 and 641/2 and gave him the vice-championship. 1991 was only the second season of Prost’s career that returned no GP-win. Three second positions have been the best results for him, using 642 and 643.
