Dear F-Register Community!
August is always a strange month; it seems to be the only one with a data gap. This is, of course, because in countries like Italy and France, the people have established August as a traditional holiday month—and that's a good thing.
For us, however, that means hardly any new vehicles, as production is at a standstill, and hardly any racing, as the organizers think their target customers are on vacation. There are a few local events early in the month, like Oldtimer Grand Prix or Classic Days, and then you can devote yourself to the hunt for more data; the number of vehicles on the market seems to be constantly growing.
However, August is also one of two months in the year in America when auction houses, enthusiasts, and dealers converge for the biggest auctions of the year: Scottsdale in Arizona early in the year, and then Monterey Car Week in Pebble Beach in summer. And this year, too, the selection was huge and highly attractive. And... it brought us another record. The "last" Daytona SP3 was offered for charity and fetched $26 million, becoming the highest-priced new Ferrari ever sold at auction. Interested database users will, of course, know that neither the serial number (which isn't that important) nor the assembly number (careful, it is important) indicate that it is actually the last one, even if "599+1" suggests it might. Regardless, number 319682 is certainly interesting and will likely be etched in the memory of Ferrari enthusiasts for a long time.
Now, before we get back to work, there's still so much data lying around that needs to be processed: 592 entries were processed in August, 361 of which are new because the holidays have now ended. That makes just over 9,000 Ferraris since the beginning of the year – all of which you can, of course, find in F-Register's fabulous database.
See you next time!
