The second day of tests was used for tests and collecting data of the aerodynamics, the exhaust system and for long runs on constant speed. Even Massa improved his time compared to Day 1, it was clear that Day 2 was more for the records than for a record…
6.2.13 - Circuit de Jerez, F. Massa 8th 1:19.914 +1.696 78 laps 345.384 km, sunny 6-22°C, track: 7-28°C
Day 3, Feb. 7th
…finally delivered the record! 1:17.879 was the fastest time of the complete test days, 0.2 sec. slower than Nico Rosberg’s 2012 fastest lap. However, the public began to speculate about low fuel levels immediately. Nevertheless, the fastest time remains the fastest time and a “pole” during winter tests is nice to achieve, but worth nothing at all if not repeated Down Under.
7.2.13 - Circuit de Jerez, F. Massa 1st 1:17.879 85 laps 376.380 km, sunny 3-18°C, track: 5-25°C
Day 4, Feb. 8th
As scheduled, new test driver Pedro de la Rosa took over the F138 for the last day. Unfortunately the gear box caught fire on his second lap that caused some damage to the rear coverage. The gear box was changed quickly and de la Rosa managed to drive further 49 laps. However, his result was poor compared to Massa’s time.
8.2.13 - Circuit de Jerez, P. de la Rosa 9th 1:20.316 +2.168 51 laps 225.828 km, sunny 15°C
Next stop of the “Winter Circus” will be Barcelona on Feb. 19th with Alonso at the steering wheel.
