This weekend sees the XXXXI Grande Prêmio Petrobras do Brasil. It is the final round of this year’s Formula 1 season. Sebastian Vettel leads the Championship with 13 points in front of Scuderia’s Fernando Alonso. Vettel would become World Champion for the third time, if he reaches 4th position. Red Bull has already taken the Constructor’s title for this season with the Scuderia in second place but still not save as McLaren is only 14 points behind.
Brazil might be best remembered for the 2008 battle for the Championship when Felipe Massa won the race on #269 and was World Champion for 38.907 seconds before Lewis Hamilton was able to overtake Timo Glock’s Toyota in the last corner to gain the result that gave him a 1-point-cushion against Massa.
Usually held early in the season until 2003, the Brazilian GP moved to the end of the F1-calendar and is one of the last races or the final of the season nowadays. Niki Lauda was the first driver of the Scuderia to win the official Brazilian GP in 1976, driving #023.
Only eight times out of 41 Brazilian GPs, the race was not held in São Paulo but held in Jacarepagua once and seven times on Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet in Rio de Janeiro. Out of the 40 previous races, the Scuderia achieved only 7 pole positions and 10 victories. Carlos Reutemann, Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa all made the top of the podium twice. The last victory for the Scuderia was the famous Massa-win from November 2nd, 2008.
