We have never experienced that. We didn't understand that. We wonder how the crew from Circuit Spa Francorchamps organizes an event like a Formula 1 race and fails so furiously at an event of incomparably smaller size and relevance? What are we talking about? About this year's Spa Classic. Actually, everything was as usual: on site before 9 a.m., quickly buy something, after 10 minutes on to the track, the construction work in Spa next to the casino is progressing very slowly, the blocking of the main road and the detour was new, with signs that could have led everywhere, just not to the goal and, the nice thing, Le Roannay has reopened, nicer and bigger, but, after that...
Even before the roundabout at the gas station there was a traffic jam. Everyone who knows Spa doesn't think anything yet, but is strangely touched. First wrong decision of the day: we did not take the first exit to P14...because we've never taken it, but the second one because we've never parked anywhere other than P1 and P2. And then? Shortly before it goes to P4 to the left - which we did after an odyssey, only much later and then to the right, there was the next line - walking pace, on the other hand, is high speed compared to heading forward and the organization was only visible at the next roundabout. P1 was full and... P2 was empty (see below), reserved for VIPs - when we later left the event still no one parked there - so far so bad and back to P4.
After that and the assumption that it could definitely be overcrowded, which only happened around noon, we went on the tour, the spottings of which you can follow in the Slide Show. We were disappointed with the number of competition vehicles present. Not that we were expecting anything new, but the number of Ferraris taking part has decreased significantly and #4213 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso, #34445 512 BB/LM Series 3, #44023 512 BB/LM Series 3 and #16935 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competition Conversion were also entered - but nowhere to be seen.
Well, there were some real treasures in the parking lot, including the wonderful black 275 GTB, and when you see the car next to today's road vehicles, instead of "is that brawny" it becomes an unexpectedly delicate and small vehicle - never mind, beautiful! Just like the Belgian Daytona or the two 812 in special colors or the two Maranello brothers from England who parked cheek to cheek.
We missed the usual get-together of Ferrari drivers, there was nobody there. Was it worth? Probably not. are we coming back Probably yes, although the prices are now way too high for what's on offer. What do we make of it? We go to Spa Italia and bet on P1 or P2 - what else?
