online auction company announced insolvency
Already in mid-January, the fears of a complete insolvency of Auctionata, founded in 2012, rose high. With March, 1st, the business ceased. Auctionata has been a start up-company, financed with venture capital of about 100 mil. Euro. The business idea was rather sinple but impressive: Auctionata offered goods of all kind in online auctions. To be different from other online auction companies, like market leader eBay, Auctionata focussed on live stream auctions on the web.

Whatever one does in auction business it is done by volume like eBay or by quality like Auctionata's competitors do. Market experts did rate the quality of Auctionata's lots of not being of a standard that would allow them to compete in the market. Late in 2016, as we reported, Auctionata seemed to switch to more volume-driven auctions, probably at a time, when business already has become rough. After having acquired US-auction house paddle8, more funds were needed to keep the business going and when Auctionata failed to collect more money in more rounds of funding, Auctionata's sunset was not longer to avoid. Even selling all shares of paddle8 and other investment did not help from insolvency.

For the automotive auction scene the loss of Auctionata is no major accident, however a sympathetic player in the market has left the field...
