If the AvD OGP didn't exist, it would have to be invented. Is there any finer praise than that?
It all started on August 10, 1973 as the first Internationale Historische Rennen. The name has changed little over time, but has changed three times. The Internationale Historische Rennen became the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix and this year it's just the Oldtimer Grand Prix. But the location and content basically always remain the same: Nürburgring, historic racing vehicles in competition and lots of club activities.
We were able to experience 20 of the 50 times and from Ferraristi's point of view there is of course a lot to report and to show what we have compiled in 50 pictures since 2004 in today's Slide Show.
Of course, a lot has changed about our brand. The high time of the Schumi-Mania caused a lot of vehicles - it didn't matter that there were usually Racing Days at the Ring in the same month. Ferrari was there with its own hospitality. Unfortunately, that changed before the next decade and the FCD has been on its own ever since and great commitment doesn't seem to be able to replace potent sponsoring. In recent years there have often been less than 100 vehicles present - in contrast to regularly more than 300 at the beginning of the millennium. The trend, which we also feel at the Racing Days, that there are fewer and fewer Classic Ferraris on site, is continuing - unfortunately. After all, the FCD has set a new highlight with its Racing Series.
And anyway, it's always nice at the Classic Car Grand Prix and isn't that the most important thing? For 2023 we hope, of course, that the clubs will be more present than before the pandemic.
