more than 60 Prancing Horses on display
A first glance on 26th Techno Classica today. It sure will be followed by a full Serial Number run down as well as slide shows by Serial Number.
26th Techno Classica caused massive traffic jams around Essen this year. This might well have been related to a strike by public services in Germany on Wednesday and Thursday of last week. This probaly may have prevented various potential visitors to show up this year, however, a stable number of 190,000 enthusiasts lingered throught the 12 halls plus upper decks and outside areas.
2,500 cars have been on display with some rolling stocks because of high demand. Awarded "Best German Ferrari Dealer", Helmut Eberlein had to change his display on the second day already because of his sales efforts from day 1.
01.04.2014 - 21:59 - 26th Techno Classica feature #1
S/N #116
#116 was on display at this year's Techno Classica at the TÜV Rheinland stand. It is unknownwho recently owns the car and the condition can be described best as being a "Rolling Chassis", a look through the front grill makes it obvious that the engine is not with the car as well as the back of the body.
#116 was born in 1951 as a 166 F2 and sold to Scuderia Marzotto of Valdagno. The car was winner in Caracalla with Alberto Ascari (1952) and in Marsiglia with Marzotto before it was sold to Berardo Taraschi who raced it from 1955 to 1957 in several local races in Italy. In the late 1980s it was entered in historic races -including the 1988 AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix- by Tazio Taraschi, the name that led to the identification of the car as you can see by the sticker shown within our slide show.
03.04.2014 - 21:33 - 26th Techno Classica feature #2 - Dinos on parade
High price levels bring a special species to market
Not less than 17 Dinos of all kind have been presented at this year's Techno Classica. Eberlein's 02292 was already sold on the preview day and replaced by 05300. 00238 was offered by Fiskens and was our personal "Dino of the Show", even if it made its way through several dealers within the last years. 02422 was previously owned by Michel Lepeltier who's tremendous collection was auctioned by Bonhams in 2003 - a tragic story of hobby, blood and tears that every Ferraristi knows today. 07868 followed us from Paris' Retromobile and local dealer, Movendi, from Düsseldorf had two Dinos on offer.

10.04.2014 - 21:10 - 26th Techno Classica feature #5 - 0152EL
The 1952 225 Sport Vignale Berlinetta
Shown at Paris' Retromobile in Febuary and appearing in Essen again this year we all have to recall that 0152EL was a competition car when new - even if we can't imagine today.
0152EL was sold new to France to Pierre Boncompagni alias "Pagnibon" who entered it in several races that naturally were won: Montlhery, Nimes, Val de Cuech hillclimb and Montlhery Sprint Cup. The car is siad to have entered 1952's Mille Miglia but conflicting Boncompagni's victory in Bordeaux. "Pagnibon" further raced 0152EL through 1952, winning the Col Bayard hillclimb and the Coupe du Salon at Monthlery and participating in the GP of Monaco (5th), the 24h Le Mans (dnf) and the Tour de France (2nd oA). The engine was swapped with 0218 in 1952.
Late in the 1950s the car's journey through several hands of owners began with Dr. Ian Reid-Entwistle of Cheshire then Dan Margulies of London, Paul G. Palumbo of Ascot, D.C. Pedler, Brian Mulvaney, John Ward of Warwickshire and David Shute of Somerset before being registered on RE 276000 to Giuseppe Medici, a Reggio Emilia resident. In 1979 the car was owned by Ennio Gianaroli of Flémalle in Belgium, registered FGY 988 and shown at various historic races and shows before Italian Emilio Gnutti of Brescia purchased 0152EL and entered it in the Mille Miglia Storico until 2004 with remarkable success.
In Essen, it was on offer by German classic car dealer E. Thiesen.
13.04.2014 - 21:01 - 26th Techno Classica feature #6 - 1435GT
the car that will always be remembered by its interior
1435GT is again a car with some speculation about the early history. When offered by Bonhams in their 2000 edition of the former pre-Christmas Gstaad Auction, the lot description claims, that the car was sold new to California. If so, good friend Hilary Raab names the first owner as "Rapisarda" in 1959. Other sources claimed at least temporarely- that Rapisarda was a European and the car was taken not earlier to the US than 1961.
It was in a very unique livery of Grigio Conchilia and a Verde VM3476 interior that was -as far as we know- fitted on customer's request to match Tiffany Blue. The car's PF job # is 22183.
The next 22 years are without any public known history until the car was seen with Rob Box in Switzerland in 1981 and with then official Dealer Foitek of Zurich.
It went to Sweden to Gösta Fredriksson, probably in 1984, before showing up at the already mentioned Bonhams Auction. It was described as having "very tired-looking lower side panels. Chips to front. Leather worn and cracked, though still soft. Inst binnacle pulling away from dash. It claimed to be in an overall Condition of 2.
1435GT was purchased at the auction by Philippe Lanksweert of Belgium and later registered on Dutch plates AL-54-09 before sold to Germany.
The car was already shown at Ferrari Eberlein's stand at Techno Classica last year and showed up in 2014 as well. The car has received a Classiche Certificate and a high level restoration.
15.04.2014 - 21:22 - 26th Techno Classica feature #7 - 1401GT
The 77th 250 GT LWB Tour de France
1401GT was completed on May 23rd, 1959 and sold new to Italian Luigi Taramazzo who entered it in Garessio-Colle San Bernardo hillclimb (a victory), the Trieste-Opicina hillclimb and the Monza Lottery GP before selling it the same year to Switzerland to Gérard Spinedi who entered it in several races amongst which he won the Geneve Rally in 1960. The car was in a gold livery and registered on Swiss plates GE 34675.
In 1970 is went to Rob de la Rive Box who sold it to K. Hasler of Wettswil who sold it again to long time owner, Plinio Haas of Arborn. In 1996, 1401GT's engine was installed in Paul Schouwenburg's 250 TR Replica using the identity of 0720 TR, the engine installed in 1401GT is stamped 1401GT but it is not the correct one.
Plinio Haas raced the car into various Historic Races ever since at least until the 2012 Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.
Best remembered appearance was the crash, when Haas optimistically was overtaking sister TdF #1139GT and both cars were damaged, #1139GT has just returned from a full restoration.
At this year's Techno Classica, 1401GT was offered for sale by Mirbach.
